"Kıraathane"

"Kıraathane" is today known as a social gathering place where people spend long hours drinking tea, chatting, and playing games such as backgammon. It is most often associated with unemployed men. In fact, it originally emerged as a reading house where people came together to read and discuss current affairs. Over time, however, it has evolved into its current, more negative form, commonly seen as a place where time is wasted. Personally, it is one of the places I find ugly. I guess this ugliness actually fuels my desire to draw it.
